With ample experience working on motorcycles, we took into account the specific compounds and manufacturing methods used to produce these oils, but the ultimate deciding factor for whether or not we approve of them was first hand testing.
Having put them through rigorous tests, we are confident that the following are the best motorcycle oils on the market, owing to their unique formulation and effectiveness in improving your bike’s performance.
We found Motul delivers the best overall package with their 300V synthetic engine oil, an oil tailor made for high revving, high performing engines, perfect for sportbikes, streetfighters and Harley Davidson too.
Motul claims this engine oil is made specifically for the highest revving engines in race bikes. Our testing proved that accurate, as the 300V outperformed all of its peers in extracting power, minimizing shear, and making the motorcycle ride smoother.
This 10W-40 fully synthetic engine oil uses Ester core technology to maximize your engine’s power output. Using it for our Yamaha YZF R6, there were no magical +10 HP gains, but this oil made a noticeable difference in throttle response and engine character. One of our testers described the bike as being ‘more peppy’ thanks to the improved acceleration.
With additives that reduce abrasion and clean your engine as you use it, a smoother ride is one of the main benefits of this oil. Motuls oil is designed to minimize the shearing effect of metal on metal. This oil even made startups on the R6 a lot smoother.

In a nutshell, the Mobil 1 does what other great oils do, just at a cheaper price. That makes this oil ideal for bikes that see tens of thousands of miles every year and need cheaper engine oil. In our experience, the Mobil 1 upgraded our engine’s throttle response and made riding noticeably smoother, especially for long trips.
While it is intended for street use on 4 stroke motorcycles, we had an equally good experience using the Mobil 1 off road in our ADV. It reduced shearing and abrasion, protecting the engine for many miles. Starting up the bike with this oil for the first time, the difference was apparent. The Ignition was quicker and even sounded better.
More so than the engine, this oil works to protect your gearbox and clutch mechanisms. Shifting up and down was a lot easier and more confidence inspiring. Fully synthetic oils like this one are great for boosting engine performance. It allowed our test bike to tap into previously dormant power while keeping the engine safe from general wear and tear.
Moreover, it protects the engine components during ignition, when they are usually most vulnerable to shearing. With the Motorex, ignition and idle are a lot smoother and safer.
Besides protecting the engine from damage, Motorex’s oil cleans it too.
