Progressive 412 Shocks For Harley Davidson

Overall best

Progressive has produced our all round favorite shocks for Harley Davidson motorcycles. The 412 series is one of the more affordable options, proving the best value for money out of everything we considered. Its excellent build quality means you won’t have to replace your shocks for several years, and its 5 adjustable positions mean you can fine-tune it specifically for you and your bike.

The 412 series are produced using Double Wall Steel Construction, so you can expect longevity and durability and you won’t have to worry about replacing them for several years.

Overall build quality is excellent, a lot of cheaper shocks are built overseas, but the 412 series are produced in the USA. On closer inspection, you’ll also see bushings are pre installed, and there are some quality welds. This superior build quality means you don’t need to worry about buying a knock off or something that fails on your mid ride after a couple of months.

The 412 series has several neat features that make it compatible with nearly any riding style in terms of suspension. Speed sensitive and nitrogen gas charged valving, plus a progressively wrapped spring, means the 412 series will work for heavily loaded Harleys to a light ride that wants to maximize speed. It’s compatible with the vast majority of Harley’s and various riding styles too. There’s also a five-position adjuster so that you can tune this shock specifically for your Harley you.

Riding with the 412 series was a lot smoother than stock. We found it excellent for a Harley that’s lighter in weight but still works for a heavily loaded bagger too. You can expect a noticeably smoother ride if you’re switching from stock exhausts.

Lastly, installing Progressive’s 412 series of shocks was a breeze, it was easy and only took me around 20 minutes in total. A novice rider will have no problem installing these shocks.

Pros
  • Double Wall steel construction
  • Excellent longevity
  • Affordable
  • Easily adjusted for specific Harley’s
  • 5-position cam style preload adjuster
  • 1-year warranty
  • Easy installation
  • Speed sensitive valving
  • Nitrogen gas charged
  • Compatible with most Harley models
  • Overwhelmingly positive customer reviews
  • Massive difference compared to stock shocks
Cons
  • Better alternatives for heavily loaded Harley’s

Legend Suspension Revo-A Coil Shocks

Best Premium Choice

For premium shocks that will make your ride far better, feel better, and handle superbly, Legends Suspension Revo-A Coil Shocks does just this, plus coming with a ton of interesting perks and features that most riders miss out on.

The Revo-A Coil is assembled by hand in the USA. Holding this shock, you can feel the weight and quality behind it, not to mention the welds on this thing are fantastic. While the Revo-A Coil is pricey, the value they bring is massive and you’ll be sure to get every penny’s worth from these shocks.

Legend can improve the ride quality by so much because of the extended length of the coil. This means it’s easier to find that sweet spot in smoothness and maneuverability. The spring rate for the Ravo-A Coil is also unique in its quality, meaning it can soften the preload and reduce ride height when you go over a heavy bump.

Another benefit is that these shocks won’t make as many adjustments with different riders or heavy baggage loading. This means you won’t spend nearly as much bent over adjusting suspension every time you make a change to your motorcycle.

But suppose you’re the sort of rider who wants perfection. In that case, Legend gives you the ability to fine-tune your shocks with a six-position external knob to find that sweet spot of rebound dampening, or what you just personally prefer is acceptable.

The Revo-A Coil Shocks also don’t require any tools. You can install them and also adjust them entirely by hand. Installation is super simple, and any novice rider won’t have a problem.

In terms of compatibility, Legend has made these shocks available for most variations of Harley motorcycles, and we found they work well for every riding style but do excel at cross country tours when your Harley is heavily loaded.

Pros
  • Doesn’t require many adjustments
  • Assembled by hand
  • Gives the ability for lots of adjustment
  • Far smoother ride compared to stock
  • Gives the option for a lot of adjustments for picky riders
  • More easily hits the sweet spot thanks to a longer coil
  • Premium aluminum build
  • Top-quality spring rate
  • Excellent manouvaility
  • Feels strong and weighty in your hands
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Pricey
  • Ideally would be compatible with more Harley types

Burly Slammer Shocks For Harley Davidson

Best Budget Choice

Finding budget shocks that aren’t cheap knock-offs or won’t break on you in the first year of riding is harder than you’ll think. We decided to keep our choices under the $300 mark for this option, where the ‘cheap’ range of shocks begins.

Nonetheless, Burly Slammer has produced affordable shocks to get the job done. If you’re just looking for stock replacements, I can’t recommend these enough, but if you’re looking to improve your overall riding experience in terms of smoothness, the feel of the ride, and how your bike moves overall. I would recommend saving up for something like the progressive 412 series.

I’ll assume you’re considering Burly Slammer shocks not for the fancy bells and whistles but purely stock replacements. These shocks are actually of pretty good quality, and this is made possible by Burley skimping on all the neat features that most other shocks come with. While I haven’t used these shocks for years, I’ve heard good things and the overwhelmingly positive customer reviews are a testament to their simple quality.

We found installation quick and straightforward, shocks are generally very easy to install, and Burley SLammer was no different. The actual feel of these is solid and weighty, and the build quality seems like it’s pretty decent. For this price point, I was very pleasantly surprised.

Overall, Burley Slammer is the only brand that’s produced an excellent budget alternative for Harley Davidson shocks. While it lacks all the fancy bells and whistles, the simple build makes it a great choice if you wish just to replace stock and be happy with how your ride already is.

Pros
  • Very affordable
  • Decent build quality
  • Excellent stock replacement
  • Easy installation
  • Get what you pay for
Cons
  • Lacks a lot of features mid range shocks contain
  • The smoothness is only marginally better than stock
  • Nothing too special
